The history of halflings goes back a long way. It is believed that they are descended from the dwarves. But the dwarves say that halflings are just slackers and have nothing to do with them. In turn, halflings say that the dwarves should be grateful and proud of kinship as they saved them from the Black Death epidemic.
Once upon a time in the distant past, an unforeseen tragedy befell the dwarves. In their kingdom, dwarves began to be born, who had a craving for knowledge, the study of healing potions and various hand-made crafts. These dwarves avoided mining because they believed that physical work was inferior to intellectual activity. But the other dwarves just despised them for the fact that they think so, but quietly, it can be even said, squeamishly kept aloof. They even called them differently - Halflings.

When the epidemic of “Black Death” began, finally dwarves got a reason to get rid of these intellectual cranks. As the most knowledgeable dwarves, they were sent to the surface, to find a way to cure the disease.
Having got out, our heroes found a merchant named Knud, who was a seller of various potions. They were very knowledgeable about various herbs and magic spells, which surprised Knud and forced him to tell them about everything he had. Halflings found what they were looking for and paid the seller in diamonds. But Knud didn’t have a change, so he treated the young dwarves with golden-color corn. Halflings were so impressed with the taste that they asked Knud to give them the corn seeds and he gave them to take away for free.
The young “dwarves” returned to the Bloodmine Kingdom and helped everyone to cure a disease. So after everyone was healed, they decided to leave their home forever. Having been up there, they no longer wanted to return to life with the dwarves who never understood the way they live.
They found a quiet and suitable place on the border with BlindWoods. There, they began to sow corn and other nutritious cereals. Over time, the halflings built a mill and were able to grind the grains and get even more varieties of food necessary for living. After all, they formed a new settlement and the new beloved home called CornMill.
Since then, they began to live very far and secluded from the rest of the world and led their own peaceful and slow way of life. Halflings were happy with simple things, they liked to arrange fairs, carnivals, and family feasts. They had also many competitions and festivals during the harvest days.
But Halflings were very domesticated and prim. They were afraid to go far beyond their dwellings and at night their streets were empty. Rarely did anyone come to CornMill from other creatures, but if so, halflings were quite unfriendly to travelers and treated them cautiously.
With the dwarves, halflings almost lost any contact and the other creatures simply were not interested in them. But in order to sometimes get to know what happens in the rest of the world, a few daredevils dared to leave the settlement and trade the harvest, linen clothes, and pottery in Stormfield. These halflings were the most important CornMille inhabitants, as they were the only ones who could bring the important news and rumors to the settlement.
Although they are very small in stature and prefer to stay away from the other world, still, once a century, a powerful hero with a brave heart is born among these cute little creatures. One of them, that you might already know, is an adventurer and dragon slayer — Sandy Dragonblood.
